Khaberni - The French authorities transferred part of the precious jewelry collection at the Louvre to the Bank of France, five days after the operation targeting the museum in Paris, as reported by local media on Friday.
"RTL" radio, quoting official sources, mentioned that the transfer took place amid strict security measures and with a police escort, where the pieces were stored in the vaults of the nearby French central bank, and "BFM TV" also confirmed the accuracy of this information.
The Louvre museum had been evacuated and closed on the morning of last Sunday after four masked robbers broke into the Apollo gallery, which houses the remnants of the French crown jewels.
The culprits managed to smash two display cases and steal eight rare pieces of jewelry once owned by French queens and empresses, valued at about 88 million euros ($102 million).
According to the "RTL" report, the stolen jewels were deposited in a fortified vault located 26 meters underground, where about 90% of France's gold reserves are stored.
