Khaberni - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced today, Saturday, that his country has agreed with Sweden on the supply of 150 "Gripen" fighter jets, the first batch of which will arrive next year.

Zelensky said on the "X" platform that the deal is a "good choice", affirming that Ukraine has never before received a fighter jet deal of this magnitude.

He added that the deal comes within the framework of security guarantees for Ukraine, in terms of establishing a capable air force that can fully protect its skies.

Zelensky repeated his call on Saturday to protect Ukrainian airspace, hours after a Russian bombardment on his country killed 4 people and injured 20 others.

On Thursday, Zelensky met with his allies in London to discuss supplying Kyiv with long-range missiles and air defense systems.

He said in a post on social media: "Our partners possess the necessary systems, and they can assist in defending Ukraine" against ballistic missiles that Russia uses "in almost all of its attacks."

Zelensky added that he is giving "special attention to the American 'Patriot' air defense systems, which are highly effective against ballistic missiles.
