Jordan Detention of individuals violating safe pedestrian and bicycle paths

Khaberni - The spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Abdul Karim Abu Dalu, explained that the Ministry, with a focus on the safety of citizens and the lives of users of pedestrian paths and cyclists, which were designated by the Amman Municipality as safe spaces for citizens, was intended as areas for practicing walking and cycling activities by individuals and families, clearly identified by visible ground markings and accompanied by guide signs that illustrate these paths' nature, differentiating them from regular roads and sidewalks. Originating from the Ministry's fundamental role in traffic safety, according to related legislation, and the necessity to pursue law violators who pose a threat to others' lives, today, a group of individuals was detained for using these safe paths in a way that exceeds legal limits, driving within these pathways recklessly and exhibiting behavior that endangers the lives of citizens and constitutes a severe violation of traffic rules and public safety requirements.
The ministry's spokesperson confirmed that legal and administrative measures were taken against these individuals, obliging them to sign bonds worth (fifty thousand dinars) and administratively detaining them at the Marka Rehabilitation and Reform Center, in addition to impounding their vehicles for a one-month period and issuing the necessary violations under the Traffic Law.
He stated that the ministry will coordinate with the Amman Municipality to take necessary technical measures to prevent vehicles from entering these safe paths, thus maintaining their privacy and safety level for individuals and families.
The ministry's spokesperson affirmed that the Ministry of Interior is committed to enforcing the law and taking administrative measures against individuals who invade safe pedestrian paths and drive vehicles on these paths, posing a danger to people. There will be no tolerance in dealing with these individuals who exceed the behavioral and civil values of the Jordanian society.
