How to protect yourself from the COVID virus this season

Khaberni - There are steps you can take to reduce the risk of contracting COVID, although full prevention seems impossible.

According to "Sury Life," Dr. Suraj Kokadia says there are basic health tips for avoiding illnesses during the winter months, which are measures we can all take.

Hygiene practices
Dr. Kokadia starts his advice by maintaining proper hygiene habits, as they are one of the ways to reduce the likelihood of getting sick.

He says, "Healthy habits are really important. Therefore, avoid close contact with people who show symptoms such as coughing or colds or a runny nose, and try to keep windows or doors open when many people gather."

And make sure to wash your hands regularly, avoid touching your face and beard.

When sneezing or coughing, always try to use a tissue, then dispose of it, then wash your hands afterward. If you do not have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow, as this may help prevent the spread of germs through your hands.

Also, be sure to avoid sharing items, do not share cups, towels, toys, food, or dishes with someone with a cold.

How to treat symptoms
If you feel the onset of illness "keep your body well hydrated, as this soothes the throat, relieves congestion, and protects from dehydration."

And "remember that honey and lemon are great for a sore throat."

The doctor continues: "Although many recommend vitamin C and zinc, studies show mixed results. But there is no harm in trying them, but do not rely on them alone."

Dr. Kokadia advises "to rinse the nasal passages and sinuses with saline solution. But do not use tap water directly." "Either boil it and cool it, or use a sterile saline solution or distilled water."

He recommends using "nasal sprays containing steroids, as they may be helpful in alleviating symptoms when suffering from sinusitis or rhinitis for more than two weeks."

It is best "to gargle with warm salt water, as it helps relieve sore throat and expel bacteria. It is particularly beneficial for tonsil and throat infections."

Medications
He adds: "If you feel unwell, pain relievers such as paracetamol, ibuprofen, and benzydamine can help relieve pain, especially if your throat is inflamed. A cool-mist humidifier can also help moisturize the air, which relieves congestion."
