Jellyfish Salad Does it Protect Skin from Wrinkles

Khaberni - People are increasingly turning to unconventional cosmetic methods to combat wrinkles and maintain skin freshness, and while expensive face creams or collagen-rich supplements are at the top of the anti-aging demand list, some choose dietary alternatives that naturally help in collagen production.

According to a new report by "Daily Mail", meats, citrus fruits, and whole grains are known to enhance collagen production. Currently, social media is abuzz with promotions for dietary alternatives like jellyfish serum to plump up the skin and give it a youthful radiance.

Jellyfish Dish
Jellyfish is a popular food in China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam, where it is considered a delicacy. Its flesh is typically salted and dried to preserve its texture, then rehydrated before consumption. It is often served cold in salads, seasoned with sesame oil, soy sauce, and vinegar, or it can be thinly sliced, fried, and added to soups.

Anti-Aging Benefits
This seafood is now gaining global attention, with social media enthusiasts praising its anti-aging benefits. Dr. Raj Dasgupta, an internal medicine specialist, stated, "Collagen helps keep the skin firm, smooth, and elastic. As we age, its production decreases in the body, which can lead to wrinkles and sagging. Consuming foods or dietary supplements that contain collagen can help maintain skin hydration and elasticity, which aids in appearing younger, as well as supporting the health of hair, nails, and joints."

Jellyfish contains a large amount of collagen, with some edible types comprising about 50% of the dry weight of the jellyfish.

While the collagen content varies among species and tissues, some jellyfish contain between 2.61 and 10.3 mg of protein per gram of wet tissue.

Dietary Collagen vs. Creams
Consuming collagen is considered better than using creams, as the large molecules in topical creams cannot penetrate the outer layer of the skin, which is essential for rebuilding collagen. In contrast, consuming collagen allows it to be broken down into smaller amino acids, which the body uses to build collagen. Additionally, jellyfish is also a much cheaper alternative to collagen creams, which can cost hundreds of dollars. However, it is a specialty product and may be difficult to find in many grocery stores.
