Khaberni - The Spanish police confirmed today, Friday, that they have recovered a painting by Pablo Picasso dating back to 1919, which had disappeared earlier this month before a planned exhibition in a temporary gallery in the south of the country.
The painting "Still Life with Guitar" was among a larger collection of artworks transferred from Madrid to Granada.
The organizers of the exhibition filed a report with the police on October 10, after noticing its disappearance following the unloading of the boxes.
In a post on the "X" platform, the police indicated that the painting may not have been loaded onto the truck before the shipment left Madrid.
A statement mentioned that a unit concerned with the protection of historical heritage continues the investigations, without indicating whether the police believe there is a criminal suspicion.
The police published photos of forensic experts examining the painting.
The police had registered the painting in the Interpol global database of stolen artworks, which contains about 57,000 pieces.
The Caja Granada Foundation, which hosts the exhibition, mentioned that surveillance cameras showed only 57 works being unloaded from the vehicle upon arrival, instead of the expected 58 works.
