Khaberni - The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency in Britain, on Friday, said it seized the largest quantity in history of unlicensed weight loss drugs after raiding a manufacturing plant that produces medications bearing a label indicating they contain the ingredient found in Eli Lilly's drug Mounjaro.
Pharmaceutical companies and global regulatory bodies have sounded the alarm about a significant increase in counterfeit and unlicensed weight loss drugs, which are smuggled globally, and sold illegally online and through underground networks.
The agency said it confiscated two thousand injection pens bearing a label that they contain Tirzepatide, the ingredient in Eli Lilly's Mounjaro and Zibaund drugs, and the drug Retatrutide, an experimental obesity drug also produced by Eli Lilly that is still under trial.
It also seized tens of thousands of empty pens, alongside raw chemical materials.
Eli Lilly has not yet responded to a request for comment.
