Parliamentary Finance We strive to pass the budget before the end of January

Khaberni - The Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, MP Sulaiman Al-Kharabsheh, confirmed on Friday that the House of Representatives will ensure, during the second regular session, the approval of the general budget law before the end of January or in the first week of February 2026, to avoid any delays in disbursing contractors' dues or hindering the projects scheduled within the government plan.

Al-Kharabsheh explained, during his talk with "Al-Mamlaka", that the Jordanian budget faces serious challenges, the most notable being that about 70% of its allocations go to salaries, wages, and operational expenses, in addition to the burden of external debt, which limits the amount of spending allocated for investment projects.

He pointed out the necessity of having a group of informed deputies about the details of preparing the budget, to expedite discussions under the dome and avoid prolonging them, ensuring its approval in a timely manner and allowing the executive authority to implement projects without delay.

Al-Kharabsheh emphasized that the economic situation in Jordan is difficult, especially with the increasing number of workers and retirees, requiring measures to improve living standards, adding that this file will be a focus of discussion with concerned parties with the aim of achieving positive results.

About the second regular session, Al-Kharabsheh mentioned that it would include several important laws, noting that the items of the general budget law are usually similar, which requires focusing on controlling spending priorities and achieving financial balance.

The general budget law for 2026 tops the priority list of the House of Representatives during the second regular session, which begins its work on Sunday after His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein delivers the Throne Speech, signaling the start of the new session.

The general budget law is one of the most anticipated legislations in this session, with the government supposed to present the draft general budget law and the draft budget law for government units to the House of Representatives by no later than November 15, 2025, based on the provisions of the Jordanian Constitution.
