The impact is not limited to Messi alone, for the arrival of South Korean star Son Heung-min to Los Angeles FC contributed to raising the away audience attendance by 16%, according to the American league report released yesterday, Thursday.
On the digital platforms front, the league recorded record numbers, surpassing a total of 13.7 billion views on the league's and clubs' accounts, an increase of 17% compared to the previous season, reflecting the growing global interest in the competition.
The stadiums also saw a tangible increase in fan attendance, with an average of 21,988 fans per game, the second highest number in the history of the American league, while the total personal attendance was 11.2 million fans, recording an increase of 12% from 2022.
On the sales front, Messi remains the most influential by far, leading jersey sales through the league's online store, while Son ranked second, highlighting his role in enhancing the league's popularity and commercial growth.
The league continues to enhance its global spread through its partnership with the television broadcasting company, which broadcasts all matches on its platform, contributing to increased profits and expanding the fan base, confirming the rise of the American league association as one of the leading international soccer destinations.
