Potential Meeting Between Trump and Kim Next Week

Khaberni - The South Korean Minister of Unification referred on Friday to a "significant" possibility of holding a meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un next week.

Chung Dong-young told reporters that North Korea "pays attention to the United States," speaking of "multiple signals (...) indicating significant possibilities that there will be a meeting."

The South Korean minister anticipates that this meeting will take place on the sidelines of the scheduled visit of the American president to South Korea on Wednesday, to participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum meeting.

American media reported that officials from the Trump administration have discussed confidentially arranging a meeting between him and Kim, noting that their last encounter was during Trump's first term in 2019.

Trump has previously expressed his desire to meet Kim again, indicating the possibility that it could occur this year.

Their previous meetings took place in June 2018 in Singapore, in February 2019 in Vietnam, and in June of the same year at the border between the Koreas.

In September last year, Kim said he was ready to reconnect with Washington, speaking of "good memories" about Donald Trump, provided that the United States abandons preventing his country from possessing a nuclear bomb.
