Albanese The ceasefire is not sufficient to address the genocide in Gaza

Khaberni - The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, considered on Wednesday that the ceasefire in Gaza is not sufficient to confront the "genocide" the Palestinian people are facing from the United States and Israel.

Albanese, who is commissioned by the United Nations but does not speak on behalf of the organization, stated, "This is not a war, but a genocide, as there is an intention to exterminate a people."

Albanese's statement came while a fragile truce is ongoing in Gaza as part of an American-sponsored agreement to end a two-year-long war, which includes the recovery of prisoners' bodies and the introduction of more aid to the Palestinian sector, and later, its reconstruction.

Albanese stated that the plan "is entirely inadequate and not in alignment with international law," emphasizing the need to commit to "ending the occupation, ending the exploitation of Palestinian resources, and ending the colonization."

The Israeli occupation forces currently control about half of the territory of the Palestinian sector.

A History of Complicity

According to Agence France-Presse, several UN investigators and human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, accuse Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, a claim that the Israeli state denies, describing the allegations as "distorted and false," and accusing those who propagate them of anti-Semitism.

Albanese made her latest statements while in South Africa, the country that has filed a complaint against Israel at the International Court of Justice accusing it of committing "genocide" in Gaza, coinciding with her giving the annual Nelson Mandela lecture on October 25.

Albanese has been subject to American sanctions since July over her public criticisms of Israel.

The UN Special Rapporteur will present her new report to the international organisation in the coming days, and according to the version published by the United Nations on its website, she states that Western support for Israel in its war with Hamas "caps a long history of complicity."
