Khaberni - Egyptian media figure Asma Sherif Mounir drew attention during her participation in the eighth edition of the El Gouna Film Festival in her first public appearance wearing a hijab.
Asma announced her involvement in a new project titled "A Different World," stating that her attendance this year was not aimed at appearing on the red carpet, but to present a project with intellectual value and a humanitarian message.
Asma posted her pictures in hijab on her Instagram account, and wrote: "This is the first time I attend the El Gouna Festival wearing a hijab, and I am very happy. Last year, I was building a network of relationships for ('A Different World'), attending seminars and participating in master classes to benefit, but this year we came as a team wanting to present a meaningful work, and suddenly everything changed within 48 hours."
She added that she was thinking of not traveling to El Gouna this year, explaining: "I was planning not to attend, especially since I am new to wearing the hijab and had not prepared enough clothes, yet I felt that God prepares opportunities when a person is ready from within, not from their external appearance."
She explained that one entity encouraged her to participate after seeing that her project deserved to be presented, so she decided to attend to present an experience that represents her and her husband Amro.
Asma said: "I attended the El Gouna Festival in previous years as a makeup coordinator and social media influencer, but this is the first time I feel that I am showing my true self, and presenting something that truly represents me."
She confirmed that her participation in the festival this year aims to launch a project with humanitarian value, saying: "My presence here is not for the red carpet, but for people to see ('A Different World') as it deserves. I thank everyone who believed, helped, and encouraged, and I thank myself for continuing the journey despite the difficulties."
Asma recently spoke in a podcast about her life before wearing the hijab, saying that she had many experiences traveling and staying out late but did not find true comfort in them, pointing out that she found peace and tranquility in getting closer to God and committing after years of confusion.
Asma announced wearing the hijab in September, removed all her old photos, and posted new photos with her husband, commenting: "Alhamdulillah, I had only one hijab and one outfit, but I felt deep inside that this step was right. The hijab is not just an appearance, it is a covenant between me and God and indescribable peace." She also asked her followers to pray for her steadfastness, indicating that she is still looking for elegant clothes that fit her hijab and her new step.
