Decline in the Return of Syrian Refugees from Jordan by 27 in September

Khaberni - The pace of Syrian refugees returning from Jordan to their homeland declined by 27% during the past month of September, compared to August, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Jordan.

The commission's report for September showed that about 16,000 Syrian refugees returned to their country in September, versus 22,000 in August, attributing this decrease to "the start of the academic year".

As of the end of September, the number of refugees registered with the Commission in Jordan reached 488,000, with 81% living in local communities, while children make up 48% of the refugees.

The report indicated that approximately 162,550 registered refugees returned from Jordan to Syria from December 8, 2024, to October 11, 2025.

In September, the Commission launched a pilot initiative to provide cash assistance for return in the framework of supporting voluntary return, targeting about 10,000 refugees from the Za'atari and Azraq camps, where each family member receives 70 Dinars upon completion of the voluntary return assessment.

This program complements existing transportation aid, with the commission organizing return trips for about 1,200 refugees from the camps and local communities to Syria in September, bringing the total number of beneficiaries of transportation services since the start of the initiative on January 20, 2025, to more than 9,500 refugees.

The report highlighted that 50 refugees left Jordan during September to be resettled in other countries.
