Khaberni - Israeli National Security Advisor Tzachi Hanegbi announced today, Tuesday, that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu - wanted for international justice - has dismissed him from his position in an immediate move amid escalating domestic criticism regarding the government's handling of security matters following the Al-Aqsa Flood on October 7, 2023.

Hanegbi stated in a communique carried by Agence France-Presse, "Prime Minister Netanyahu informed me today of his intention to appoint a new national security advisor," adding, "The dire failure on October 7, in which I was a part, must be deeply investigated to learn lessons and restore shaken confidence."

The dismissal comes two years after the Al-Aqsa Flood, while Netanyahu's government has not yet established a "national inquiry commission" to determine the causes of the security failure, amidst accusations from the opposition of the Prime Minister’s attempts to prevent the establishment of such a body.

Netanyahu's office released a statement thanking Hanegbi for "his service as the national security advisor over the past three years," wishing him "success in his upcoming endeavors."

The Israeli Channel Ten reported officials saying that the reason behind the dismissal of the national security advisor Tzachi Hanegbi was his opposition to decisions by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, including the occupation of Gaza City.

Meanwhile, "Israel Hayom" newspaper stated that the reasons for dismissing Hanegbi include his opposition to the occupation of Gaza and launching an attack on Qatar.

The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported from sources close to Netanyahu that Hanegbi - who was dismissed today, Tuesday - had leaked information against the Prime Minister.

Hanegbi, a former deputy from the Likud party and a former minister in several governments, is considered close to Netanyahu, and has held his recent position since the beginning of 2023.

This dismissal follows a series of changes Netanyahu made in the security and military establishments, including Defense Minister Yoav Galant and the head of "Shin Bet" Ronen Bar, against a backdrop of deep disagreements over the management of the war and the Palestinian file.

It is worth mentioning that a ceasefire is still in effect in the Gaza Strip for less than two weeks, under an agreement sponsored by US President Donald Trump in Sharm el-Sheikh through Egyptian and Qatari mediation, amid international calls to stabilize it permanently and start the reconstruction phase.
