Italy Opens Investigation into Israels Mistreatment of Activists from the Resilience Fleet

Khaberni - The public prosecutor's office in Rome has opened an investigation into complaints submitted by Italian activists who participated in the global Resilience Fleet, which was illegally attacked by Israel in international waters and detained them on the first of October.

The Italian news agency "ANSA" reported on Tuesday that the legal team of the fleet participants stated that the public prosecutor's office in Rome began the investigation based on complaints from 36 Italian activists who were subjected to drone attacks, illegal detention, mistreatment, and violations during their detention.

On Monday, the Italian activist Tony La Picciorella filed a personal complaint, stating that he was tortured during his detention by the Israeli forces, and described the detention of the ships participating in the fleet as a violation of human rights.

Complaints

The complaints filed against Israel included accusations such as attempted murder, causing a ship incident, conducting activities that threaten maritime security and piracy, depriving of liberty, mistreatment, and torture.

Media reports indicated that the opening of the investigation is "the first step towards determining the responsibility for the attacks and violations committed by Israel against the humanitarian and peaceful mission of the global Resilience Fleet".

At the beginning of October, Israel attacked the Resilience Fleet in international waters in the Mediterranean Sea while it was trying to deliver humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in besieged Gaza.

Israel arbitrarily detained hundreds of activists on board before releasing most of them and deporting them, amid testimonies of torture and mistreatment.
