Jordan and Iraq Extend Oil Supply Agreement Until End of This Year

Khaberni - Informed sources reported on Tuesday that last month, Jordan and Iraq reached an agreement to extend the oil supply agreement to Jordan for about 3 months.

The sources added that the extension of the agreement ensures that Jordan will be supplied with approximately 10,000 barrels per day at a price consistent with the monthly Brent crude oil rate, discounted by $16 per barrel.

The same sources indicated that the current extension of the agreement lasts until December 31, "the end of this year," adding that the export of oil to the kingdom began since October 5.

Oil supply from Iraq to Jordan was interrupted for about 4 months after the expiration of the previous agreement last June, according to the sources.

It is noted that the memorandum of understanding previously signed between the two countries stipulated the supply of approximately 15,000 barrels of Iraqi oil daily to Jordan, which constitutes about 10% of the kingdom's crude oil needs.

Under the memorandum, Jordan commits to providing tanker trucks for the transport of Iraqi crude oil from Iraq to the Jordanian Petroleum Refinery in Zarqa, and the tanker trucks are distributed equally between Jordanian and Iraqi companies.
