Khaberni - The city of Bladensburg, Maryland, witnessed a horrifying incident after a car crashed into a children's birthday party, injuring at least 11 people, including children aged between two and nine years, before the driver fled the scene.
The Bladensburg police stated in a release that the incident occurred within a residential area when a car, coming from the direction of Annapolis Road, collided with a group of attendees gathered in front of a house to celebrate a child's birthday, according to "People" magazine.
The statement added that the driver of the vehicle fled on foot following the incident, while investigations are still ongoing to determine his identity and motives. Authorities closed Annapolis Road between 57th Avenue and Landover Road to facilitate examination work and clear the remnants of the collision.
The police clarified that all the injured were transported to local hospitals, noting that the ages of the injured children ranged from two to nine years.
On its part, the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department announced on the "X" platform that their units responded to a report of a car crashing into a tent during the birthday party, confirming that they provided aid to 11 injured individuals, including an infant and a teenage girl in critical condition.
The department added that the other injured include two women and four boys and three girls, all suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.
The Prince George’s County Police participated in the investigation at the scene, while the reasons for the collision or whether it was a result of an accident or deliberate recklessness are still unknown.
