Khaberni - U.S. Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff said that the estimated cost of reconstructing Gaza is about $50 billion, but he considered that the amount is "not large in relation to the size of the region."
He added during an interview with CBS: "There are governments in the Middle East that will quickly contribute to the financing, in addition to an expected European participation."
He continued: "I believe that the first stage of the plan involves how to actually launch it, and this is what I am working on." And he found that "securing the funding is the easiest part, which can be achieved relatively quickly, while the real challenge is in the comprehensive master plan."
He continued: "We are working with a team of experts who have developed master plans over the past two years. We already have ready and comprehensive plans. Jared Kushner (the son-in-law of the American President) is strongly pushing in this direction and we are working together to implement it."
Witkoff responded to a question about who will handle Gaza reconstruction contracts, saying, "A council known as the Peace Council will be established, and we will be very careful in selecting the best talents to work in it."
He added: "We are already talking with contractors from various countries in the Middle East, because we believe regional support is essential, and they know the local market and its mechanisms better."
