Jordanian Engineer Wins Transformative Research Challenge Award at the Global Food Forum

Khaberni - Jordanian engineer Mohamed Mustafa Basheer won the 2025 Transformative Research Challenge at the Global Food Forum in FAO.
The agricultural attaché at the Jordanian Embassy in Rome, Dr. Ibtihal Khreisha, said that the summary of engineer Mohamed Basheer's idea was centered around the significant challenges faced by fish farmers in the Middle East and North Africa, including the high cost of feed and environmental pollution resulting from farm waste.
Khreisha added to the Jordan News Agency (Petra) today, Sunday, that the idea presented an innovative circular solution that transforms fish farm waste and organic waste into valuable resources, where black soldier fly larvae, which feed on this waste, convert it within 7-10 days into a high-quality protein meal as an alternative to fishmeal in feeds, while breeding waste is transformed into organic fertilizer.
She noted that the results show the production of 300 kg of protein and 200 kg of fertilizer from each ton of waste, with a 57 percent reduction in waste volume in addition to achieving a cost recovery period of 6 to 12 months, alongside reducing the carbon footprint and protecting marine life and conserving water and land resources, thereby enhancing food security and supporting sustainable agricultural development.
