Khaberni - The Impact Factor and Reference Citations Laboratory for Arabic Scientific Journals "Arcif" released the results of its tenth annual report for 2025, after a thorough review and examination of Arab research published in academic and research journals, totaling more than 956,000 studies, which were observed, examined, and documented in Arcif’s annual reports.
Dr. Sami Al-Khazendar, president of the Impact Factor initiative "Arcif", which is one of the initiatives of the "Ma'arifa" database, stated, "The results of the Arcif 2025 report, in addition to the previous nine annual reports, reflect a significant increase and growth in the volume and importance of Arabic scientific production and publication despite numerous obstacles and challenges in the Arab region." He also mentioned the extensive data provided, which reflects its trends and reality, whether concerning scientific journals, Arab authors, the research impact of universities and research institutions in Arab countries, or the development of scientific and research publishing.
Arcif's scientific teams examined about 5,500 scientific and research journals published in Arabic by approximately 1,500 scientific and research entities. A total of 1,272 scientific journals succeeded in meeting the 32 internationally recognized and globally compatible impact factor standards maintained by "Arcif", issued from 20 Arab countries (excluding Djibouti and the Comoros), and from eight foreign countries: the United Kingdom, Turkey, the United States, Malaysia, Belgium, India, the Netherlands, Iran, and Pakistan, where journals are published in Arabic.
The Arcif 2025 report reviewed data and results of 364,000 Arab authors, encompassing their research in 956,000 scientific articles, showing that over 111,000 Arab authors had their work cited.
The current tenth annual report represents a 367% growth in scientific journals compared to the first annual report issued in 2016, a 870% growth in articles that were examined and studied, and a 6800% increase in the number of cited Arab authors.
The "Arcif" impact factor, which has brought Arab scientific production from invisibility to globally recognized production, serves as a methodological tool to measure the relative importance of research and scientific journals and compare them within their knowledge field and scientific impact, according to rigorous standard equations based on global measures.
Dr. Al-Khazendar also mentioned during the annual results launch meeting that "the 2025 report, like last year's annual report, reflects a broad understanding and increasing interest among the Arab scientific community, regarding the necessity to rely on research and scientific publishing in Arabic," and he pointed out "the necessity of Arabic research and publishing for producing knowledge and technology instead of relying on importing it," "which calls for trust in the Arab scientific mind and support for researchers' efforts."
Regarding the volume of scientific production from scientific journals, the Arcif 2025 report, which adopts internationally followed standards, indicated that Algeria obtained the first rank and the largest share of accredited journals that successfully met the criteria, with 426 journals, followed by Egypt with 364 journals, Iraq third with 122 journals, with Saudi Arabia in fourth place with 75 journals, and Jordan fifth with 45 journals.
Egypt uniquely ranked first in Arab countries in the results of the general "Arcif" impact factor, which compares all scientific Arab journals from various fields, followed by Saudi Arabia in second place.
In terms of the index for the number of cited authors, Algeria ranked first with 26,834 authors, Egypt advanced to second place with 21,988 authors, Iraq fell to third place with 21,367 authors, followed by Saudi Arabia with 10,712 authors, and finally Jordan with 6,098 authors, noting a significant increase in the number of Arab researchers cited in all Arab countries.
Sectorally, Egypt led the Arab scene in several fields as shown by this report; while Saudi Arabia topped the field of Humanities and Social Sciences (interdisciplinary), which includes 252 journals, with "King Faisal University Scientific Journal: Humanities and Administrative Sciences," issued by King Faisal University, with Yemen ranking second, while the United Arab Emirates ranked third, followed by Algeria fourth, and Palestine fifth.
Egypt led the field of Economic Sciences, Finance, and Business Management, which includes 192 journals, with "Journal of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science," issued by Cairo University, and Palestine in second place, then Egypt also occupied the third and fourth ranks, and the Arab League...
