Shock on air Argentine politician passes away during a live debate

Khaberni - Argentine politician Hernan Damiani, a member of the Radical Civic Union (UCR), passed away on Wednesday evening after suffering a heart attack during his participation in a live televised debate in the city of Posadas, resulting in the broadcast coming to an immediate halt.

Damiani, 64 years old, collapsed minutes after beginning his participation in a political program titled "Dolar Blue", where he appeared tired and struggled to breathe before passing away in front of the cameras.

The attendees rushed to assist him, among them the former Health Minister Walter Villalba, who tried to resuscitate him until the medical team arrived.

Damiani was urgently transferred to Madariaga Hospital in the city of Posadas, but the doctors pronounced him dead due to a sudden heart attack.

Argentinian media reported that the incident occurred live on air, prompting the channel to immediately stop the broadcast, but clips of it spread widely on social media, creating a large wave of sympathy for the veteran politician.

Hernan Damiani was one of the leading figures in the Argentine opposition, having started his political career at the beginning of the millennium when he entered the National Congress in 2001 and chaired the Criminal Legislation Committee.

He also previously held membership in the Misiones regional parliament before becoming the head of the party's branch in the region. He was preparing to contest in the legislative elections scheduled just ten days later, alongside several party leaders.
