Middle East Launches FirstofitsKind Regional Center in Health Economics and Social Policies

Khaberni - Middle East University has launched the Middle East Center for Health Economics and Social Policy (MEHS), to be the first of its kind in Jordanian universities focusing on developing national and regional health and social knowledge systems.

The announcement was made during the first steering committee meeting of the center at the university’s headquarters, sponsored by the university’s president, Professor Dr. Salam Mahadin, who stated in her speech that the establishment of the center embodies the university's strategic vision in building robust research institutions that contribute to public policy-making and promote the university's leading role as a main driver in innovation and community service, pointing out that this center represents "an unprecedented quality addition to the Jordanian higher education structure."

The meeting was attended by the center’s director Dr. Omar Al-Rashdan, the Dean of the College of Pharmacy Professor Dr. Amjad Abu Armila, the head of the Medical Training Department at the university Dr. Mohammad Al-Kharouf, the director of the Public Health Institute at Jordan University Dr. Munir Abu Hilala, and the expert in health and social policy Mona Abdel Jawad.

During the session, the center’s vision, mission, and official logo were approved, along with defining its strategic objectives, areas of operation, and service pillars. Research and training cooperation opportunities with local, regional, and international institutions were discussed, as well as proposals to launch research and development initiatives that enhance Jordan's position as a regional center of excellence in health economics and social policies.

The center aims to establish an advanced scientific research infrastructure focused on evaluating health technologies, studying the impact of social policies, and offering evidence-based consultancy to decision-makers, ensuring the efficiency of public spending and improving the quality of health and social services.

It is noted that the Middle East Center for Health Economics and Social Policy is the first of its kind in Jordan, emphasizing Middle East University's leadership in developing applied knowledge, and affirming its growing role in producing sustainable scientific solutions that link education, research, and community impact.
