Khaberni - The Egyptian Pyramids were crowned with the African Super Cup, for the first time in its history, after defeating Moroccan RS Berkane with a score of 1-0, at the Air Defense Stadium in Cairo on Saturday evening.
Congolese Viston Mayele scored the winning goal for Pyramids in the 75th minute, following a remarkable pass from his Moroccan teammate Walid El Karti.
Mayele continued to shine after he scored a hat-trick that led Pyramids to a victory over Al-Ahli Jeddah of Saudi Arabia in their home ground with a scoreline of 3-1 in the Intercontinental Cup, in addition to winning the African Champions League for the first time in its history.
Under the leadership of Croatian coach Krunoslav Jurčić, Pyramids succeeded in winning the title for the first time in its history, granting Egypt the African Super Cup for the 14th time, becoming the first Egyptian team other than Al Ahly and Zamalek to win the title.
RS Berkane, under the guidance of their coach Mouine Chaabani, lost the continental title, a scenario that has occurred with several Moroccan teams after RS Berkane previously lost the title to Al Ahly, just as Wydad lost to Zamalek.
Mouine Chaabani also previously lost the African Super Cup to Zamalek when he was the coach for Tunisian team Esperance.
The match was attended by South African Patrice Motsepe, president of the African Football Confederation "CAF", alongside Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, and Hany Abo Rida, president of the Egyptian Football Federation.
Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Moroccan Football Federation, was absent due to his attendance at the match between Morocco and Argentina in the final of the Under-20 World Cup in Chile, to be held early Monday morning.
