Final Statement of the Islamic Labor Ministers Conference in Qatar

Khaberni - The sixth session of the Conference of Labor Ministers of the OIC member states concluded in the Qatari capital, Doha.

The conference was held under the motto: "Local Experiences, Global Achievements: Success Stories in the Islamic World" and was sponsored by Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar.

The final statement of the conference emphasized the support for the State of Palestine’s right to obtain full membership in the International Labor Organization and in all international and UN organizations, as a commitment to implementing relevant United Nations resolutions.

The conference welcomed Qatar’s proposal to cooperate with regional and international labor organizations to organize uniform regional training programs to recognize qualifications and professional skills, aiming to enhance common standards and develop the workforce.

The statement called for support for developmental projects focused on skill development, human capital building, enhancing the role of the private sector, and improving the competitiveness of member states, asserting that the OIC’s labor market strategy is a primary tool for enhancing joint cooperation and building a flexible workforce capable of meeting development requirements.

The statement also encouraged the establishment of networks for small and medium-sized enterprises, women’s cooperatives, and investment agencies to exchange successful experiences in the fields of economic development and women’s empowerment.

In the field of occupational safety, the conference urged member states to conduct national studies to evaluate the effectiveness of policies and programs and ensure a safe and decent work environment for all workers. It also called for enhanced cooperation with the Islamic Organization for Food Security to train workers in the agricultural sector on modern and sustainable techniques.

The conference emphasized the importance of exploring ways to utilize artificial intelligence in aligning the labor market and developing policies that balance technological capabilities and ethical risks, in addition to exchanging experiences on digital transformation in the labor market and organizing modern work patterns such as remote work and working through digital platforms.

At the conclusion of the conference, the Qatari Minister of Labor Ali bin Samikh Al Marri praised the constructive visions and proposals presented by the delegations, affirming that the results would contribute to enhancing cooperation among member states in the fields of labor, employment, and social development, and achieving common goals at regional and international levels.
