Khaberni - Jordanian politician and former minister Bassam Haddadin announced his resignation from the Social Democratic Party and from all party activities, stating: "I say clearly and bitterly: No point!".
Haddadin said in a brief message:
After more than half a century of party work, underground and aboveground, I announce my resignation from the Social Democratic Party and from all party activities.
He added: "I say clearly and bitterly: No point!"
Haddadin sent a message to the party members, and here is its text
Message to party members
Comrades and colleagues, members of the party in the committees and branches
- We regret to inform you that the unity and dialogue initiative has reached a dead end in its effort to communicate and understand with the current leadership of the party, completely ignoring the outputs of the orphan meeting for dialogue at the party headquarters and disregarding the mandatory requirement to convene the General Council to approve everything related to the conference and to form an inclusive preparatory committee to supervise all arrangements including discussing and approving any amendments to the basic system. Unfortunately, it has been established that an exclusionary isolationist agenda manages the preparations for the conference secretly away from the majority of the party and its bodies and branches, we fear it might take non-statutory measures that kidnap the party into the unknown.
- Therefore, the initiative meeting held on Saturday 11/10/2025 decided to transform it into an organized movement as stipulated by the basic system that legalized the existence of platforms, initiatives, and movements to prevent splits and enable coexistence in the event of any disagreement. Everyone expressed their commitment to the party and to our historic project for social democracy in Jordan and thwarting attempts to overthrow it and its legacy and approach.
- The meeting decided there is no need to request a license for a new platform for the current within the party as there is an already licensed platform (the Progressive Democratic Platform) under which we can operate especially since the comrades responsible for the platform are members of the unity and dialogue initiative. Accordingly, we invite the comrades to join it to work collectively to save the party and preserve its unity and approach.
- The meeting delegated a committee to continue working and communicating with all members and bodies to arrange participation in the preparation for the conference and participation in monitoring and checking all procedures and decisions in case the isolation and refusal to form an inclusive preparatory committee that guarantees transparency, integrity, and regularity in the arrangements continues.
- This current will include all comrades who want the party to regain its identity and genuine approach. It is a temporary formation to unify efforts and enable the party to safely pass through the current station and to miss the chance on a project to hijack the party for an emergent agenda we know many follow unintentionally. Thus, our goal is to achieve the best communication with these comrades to understand and remove any confusion they may have and to restore solidarity and understanding on a roadmap for the future. And to answer the fundamental questions that were completely sidestepped after the elections alongside the total disregard for the document of the previous political office about elections and the document of the evaluation committee and its conclusions and recommendations that the General Council approved.
- We do not want to exclude anyone but on the contrary, as a result of the elections the party needs political competences and activists many times more than what it currently has and needs to resume with full momentum its role in unifying the democratic current and not to retreat into a small self-sufficient group and its status in the organization and not in society.
