Ministry of Interior consults Jordanians on an initiative to regulate social phenomena

Khaberni - The Ministry of Interior has launched a public poll to gather citizens' opinions via its website regarding the initiative to regulate social phenomena, which aims to limit exaggeration in appearances and costs associated with social events such as weddings, funerals, and others, to reinforce the values of moderation and solidarity in Jordanian society.

The Ministry of Interior stated in the document "Initiative to Regulate Social Phenomena," which was reviewed by "Khaberni," that the main goal is to enhance the values of moderation and mutual support in Jordanian society, and to reduce the phenomena of ostentation and boasting during occasions, due to the financial and psychological burdens they cause and their contradiction with the religious and social values upon which the community is built.

The initiative calls for organizing feasts and parades and celebratory appearances in accordance with laws and general instructions, avoiding road closures or disturbing others, in addition to reducing the number of invitees and adopting simpler practices that reflect the spirit rather than the appearance of the occasion.

The initiative also encourages occasions to be an opportunity to foster social bonds and raise awareness of positive values, not a field for boasting and competing in appearances. It sees this as contributing to achieving a social and economic balance that preserves individuals' dignity and strengthens the social fabric.

The initiative emphasized the importance of the awareness and media role in supporting these efforts, and called on various institutions and individuals to adopt this positive approach, aligned with the state's mission in promoting social responsibility and moderation in lifestyles.

The initiative calls for organizing weddings, condolences, and public events in a manner that reflects the spirit of simplicity and respect, away from exaggerated appearances and extravagant costs.

The initiative recommended that the number of invitees in social occasions should not exceed 200 people to reduce expenses and financial prodigality, and to maintain the social character's tranquility of the occasion.

It called for holding events within modest means without ostentatious displays or extravagance, with just a simple feast or symbolic gathering instead of costly, extended feasts.

It emphasized the importance of not blocking roads or obstructing traffic during wedding parties or processions, and adherence to laws and instructions to preserve order and public safety.

The initiative confirmed that wedding and condolence ceremonies should be limited to one day only, to prevent waste of time and money, and to relieve the social burdens on families.

It called for transforming these occasions into opportunities for solidarity and cooperation among community members, away from formal appearances that weaken genuine bonds.

It focused on the importance of returning to Islamic values and authentic Jordanian customs based on moderation and compassion, not on showing off and competing.

The document noted the importance of the role of media and official bodies in spreading awareness and educating about the content and goals of the initiative to ensure broader compliance from citizens.
