Khaberni - After ten days of mysterious disappearance in the heart of the Thai jungle, life smiled again at the young Briton Lawrence Stallard Honor, who miraculously survived after spending harsh days feeding on ants and tree bark to stay alive near the rugged border with Myanmar.
The Thai authorities said the young man was found inside the "Wat Tham Khao Swann Bandan" temple in Kanchanaburi province, western Thailand, after he managed to emerge from the jungle on his own, to be rescued by the local "One Sky Foundation" organization. The police confirmed that there were no signs of violence on him, according to "The Sun" newspaper.
According to investigations, Lawrence had left his hotel in Kanchanaburi province at the end of September, en route to Myanmar, via the "Three Towers" border crossing, but he could not cross because the checkpoint was closed at that time.
Colonel Santi Vitayasakul, police chief of Sangklaburi district, explained that the young man then tried to stay in one of the local resorts, but he was unable to book a room due to lack of money, and after charging his phone, he decided to set off again, but he lost his way as darkness fell amidst the dense forest.
Lawrence later recounted that he had wandered in the jungle for several days, moving among rugged terrains and trying to survive by eating insects and tree bark until he stumbled upon the temple he sought refuge in, asking for help.
The intensive search operations began after his mother, Gulnara Vatakhova, reported his disappearance. She told the police in her statement that she had tracked his movements via his email, which showed he was in Kanchanaburi Province, raising her deep concerns.
She explained that he was a shy and quiet young man, but excelled in the field of computers, expressing her fear that he might have been lured through the internet to one of the cyber fraud centers prevalent in Myanmar, where some workers are forced to stay.
Following his discovery, his father Julian Honor and his mother traveled to Thailand to retrieve him from the rescue team, while investigations are still ongoing to determine the reasons for his attempted border crossing to Myanmar, amid suspicions of a possible connection with fraud networks or criminal groups active in the area.
