Tragedy in a German Park Afghan Stabs Children to Death

Khaberni - The trial of a young Afghan man, 28 years old, began yesterday, Thursday, in the city of Aschaffenburg, Bavaria, Germany, following a horrific stabbing attack targeting a group of children and their chaperones in a public park, resulting in the deaths of a two-year-old child and a man who tried to defend them, in an incident that shocked public opinion.

According to international media, the trial sessions are scheduled to continue over 6 days, where the judiciary aims to determine whether the accused was aware of his actions at the time of the attack, which occurred on January 22, 2025.

Psychological Treatment
The public prosecutor's office indicated that a psychological forensic report suggests that the accused suffers from severe mental disorders, which might lead to replacing a prison sentence with confinement in a psychiatric hospital instead of traditional imprisonment.

The judicial authorities confirmed that the investigations did not reveal any terrorist or extremist motives behind the crime, noting that the accused was previously known to the police for repeated assaults, property vandalism, and resisting security forces.

The crime took place in Schöntal Park in the center of Aschaffenburg, when the accused attacked a group of kindergarten children and their supervisors, using a 30-centimeter kitchen knife.

The attack resulted in the death of a two-year-old Moroccan child and a 41-year-old German man who attempted to intervene to save the victims. Additionally, a two-year-old Syrian girl suffered serious neck injuries, along with an elderly man (73 years old) and a 59-year-old teacher who broke her arm while trying to protect the children.

After the attack, the perpetrator fled the scene, but the police managed to arrest him within just 12 minutes near the railway lines, where a bloodstained knife was found beside him.
