Khaberni - The President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Spoljaric, stated that the committee currently classifies 130 armed conflicts around the world, noting that the number of conflicts has doubled compared to what it was 15 years ago.
Spoljaric confirmed during statements to "Al-Mamlaka" channel, that the pace of conflicts is in continuous escalation, which makes it necessary to find ways to de-escalate and ensure respect for international humanitarian law, emphasizing that the protection of civilians in conflict areas requires coordinated international effort.
She added that 27 countries are currently participating in leading this international effort, alongside the six founding countries of the International Committee of the Red Cross, including Jordan, with the aim of enhancing respect for humanitarian law and ensuring effective protection for civilians affected by conflicts.
The president of the committee praised Jordan's role which has been a steadfast advocate for the respect of international humanitarian law, especially the Geneva Conventions, noting the existence of long-term cooperation between the committee and Jordan which includes the Jordanian Armed Forces, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and all relevant national institutions, contributing to the support of humanitarian efforts and the application of the principles of international humanitarian law in the region.
She added, "We appreciate Jordan's support for our work not only in the Middle East but also outside the region."
