Khaberni - Mirela was only fifteen years old when she last left her family's apartment in southern Poland. She then disappeared without leaving a trace, and when the neighbors asked her parents about her whereabouts, they insisted she had been kidnapped.
In July last year, Polish authorities found the woman who had turned 42, believed to have been missing for more than three decades, only to discover she had been held in her bedroom at her parents' house all those years.
In the shocking details of the story, Mirela's discovery came after neighbors alerted the police following hearing strange noises coming from the apartment late at night. Neighbor Luiza said, "It all started with noises from the apartment, it was very late when we decided to call the police."
When the police were summoned in July last year, the residents were shocked to discover that Mirela was found "on the verge of death" and severely injured after spending 27 years inside her parents' apartment. She was described as "like an elderly person." The woman appeared in severe frailty, as she walked stooped and could barely lift her arms.
The Polish news agency "Fakt" reported that Mirela was taken to the hospital where she received treatment, but she returned to her family's home.
Pictures obtained by the newspaper showed the two-bedroom apartment where Mirela had spent nearly three decades. One of the pictures shows the lady lying on a couch in a room that looks as if "time had stopped" in it, filled with toys from her childhood.
