Khaberni - Channel 15 of Israel, based on an unnamed security source, revealed that the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades managed to deceive the occupation army during the war.
The occupation army had dropped Israeli communication chips, with the intent to collect information about the prisoners if those chips were activated. However, the resistance collected these chips and activated them shortly before handing over the prisoners, and made calls to the families of the prisoners through them.
The unit known as the “Shadow Unit”, belonging to the movement, allowed the detained soldiers last Monday to speak with their families through a phone call before their release.
A member of the unit spoke in Hebrew to a prisoner’s family and asked them to distribute the video and deliver it to the media, following which all Israeli media outlets broadcast the scenes of prisoners talking with their families from the resistance’s prisons.
The Shadow Unit is surrounded by much secrecy, due to the sensitivity of the mission it was established for, which is “securing Israeli prisoners” in Gaza and keeping them in "the unknown sphere", to ensure successful prisoner exchange operations with the occupation state.
The existence of this unit was revealed for the first time 10 years after its establishment in 2016, following its mission to secure the release of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, which ended with a successful prisoner exchange deal.
