AlSisi and AlBurhan confirm their rejection of any unilateral action on the Blue Nile

Khaberni - Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and the head of Sudan's Transitional Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, discussed on Wednesday enhancing cooperation between the two countries and the developments in Sudan.

This occurred during a bilateral meeting session between el-Sisi and al-Burhan at the Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo.

The official spokesperson of the Presidency stated that the President welcomed General Al-Burhan's visit to Egypt, praising the strong fraternal relations between the two countries and the noticeable progress in various fields.

According to Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesperson, the developments of the field situation in Sudan, and the international and regional efforts to stop the war and achieve stability were discussed. The president emphasized the constants of the Egyptian stance towards Sudan, stressing Egypt's full support for the unity of Sudan and its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and its categorical rejection of any attempts that threaten its security or national cohesion or constitute parallel governance entities to the legitimate Sudanese government.

On his part, the head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council expressed appreciation for the ongoing Egyptian support and efforts of the president, which reflect the depth of the fraternal relations between the two peoples and contribute to Sudan's efforts to emerge from its current crisis and restore security and stability.

The meeting discussed the importance of the quadripartite mechanism as a platform for resolving the Sudanese crisis and stopping the war and achieving stability. The presidents expressed their hope that the meeting of the quadripartite mechanism, scheduled to be held in Washington in October, would yield tangible results to stop the war and settle the crisis.

The meeting reviewed the updates on the Nile water issue, and both sides renewed their categorical rejection of any unilateral actions on the Blue Nile that conflict with the provisions of international law. In turn, the head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council affirmed the unity of the position between Egypt and Sudan and the alignment of their interests regarding the Ethiopian dam issue.

The presidents agreed to enhance and intensify the mechanisms of consultation and coordination between the two countries to protect their joint water rights.

Al-Burhan arrived in Cairo on Wednesday on an officially unannounced visit, accompanied by Foreign Minister Mohyi el-Din Salem, and the Director-General of Intelligence, Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal.

Since mid-April 2023, Sudan, Egypt's southern neighbor, has been experiencing a war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, which regional and international mediations have failed to end.
