Khaberni - Individuals from anywhere in the world can now marry simply and easily using an electronic application developed by the Abu Dhabi government without the need to visit the emirate, as announced by the service manager to Agence France-Presse on Tuesday (October 14, 2025).
The concept of online marriages is still in its infancy and has been limited to a few experiments, including last year’s launch by Ukraine of a service that allows couples separated by war to marry using its government application.
The United Arab Emirates has facilitated the conduct of marriage ceremonies electronically for residents in the country during the COVID pandemic in trial projects.
But the new version of this project goes further, according to Mohammed Al Askar, the General Manager of “Tam” platform under Abu Dhabi government.
Al Askar told Agence France-Presse during the "GITEX" technology exhibition in Dubai, "The service is available to everyone. Anyone who wants to get married in Abu Dhabi, regardless of nationality, can do so online."
Organizing a virtual wedding ceremony
Al Askar added, "People can conduct all transactions electronically without the need for a personal presence. We are among the first to do this."
For 800 dirhams (218 dollars), users can fill in electronic forms, submit all necessary documents, book a person to manage the ceremonies, and even organize a virtual wedding within just 24 hours, according to the official.
This service is available to UAE nationals, foreign residents, and also to non-residents who need a lawyer or another representative in the country.
The United Arab Emirates is the only Gulf country that allows non-religious marriage, exclusively granting this right to foreigners.
The marriage feature has been added to the latest version of the "Tam" application, which allows residents of the emirate access to more than 1000 government services online.
