Khaberni - American star Taylor Swift achieved an unprecedented feat in music history after her new album "The Life of a Showgirl" topped the Billboard charts, recording record sales of 4.002 million album units in its first week.
Thus, Swift recorded the biggest album launch in the history of American charts, becoming the solo artist with the highest number of albums reaching the top spot.
According to Billboard, the album sold 3,479,500 copies, in addition to 522,600 units from digital streams, marking the biggest sales week since Luminate began tracking figures in 1991.
With this achievement, Taylor Swift has surpassed the previous record held by British artist Adele, when her album "25" sold 3.482 million copies in 2015.
Billboard explained that the album benefited from being available in 38 different versions, including 16 CD versions, two "Box Sets," eight deluxe editions on vinyl, and eleven digital versions featuring exclusive audio recordings and additional content, which has drawn criticism from some observers who believe Swift exploited her fans' enthusiasm to break records.
Thanks to this achievement, Swift now holds the top spot as the solo artist with the most albums at the top of the Billboard 200 list, having previously shared the number with Jay Z and Drake, each with 14 albums, to now own 15 albums reaching the top spot, surpassed only by The Beatles who have 19 albums at the peak.
The success of "The Life of a Showgirl" did not stop at sales alone, as Swift dominated the top 12 spots on the Billboard Hot 100 list, topped by the song "The Fate of Ophelia."
This is the third time Swift has monopolized the top ten spots—an achievement no other artist has matched—after doing so in 2022 with the album "Midnights," and again in 2024 with "The Tortured Poets Department."
"The Fate of Ophelia" became Swift's 13th song to reach number one on the Hot 100 list, tying her with Drake and Michael Jackson for fourth place in terms of the number of number-one songs.
In related news, Swift announced on "Good Morning America" on Monday morning the launch of a new concert film from her "Eras Tour," alongside an exclusive documentary series from behind the scenes to be aired on Disney+ in December.
