Law student terrifies Brazil poisons acquaintances to death for pleasure

Khaberni - A law student in Brazil triggered a massive shockwave after security investigations on Tuesday exposed her involvement in a series of poisoning crimes that claimed the lives of four individuals over just five months.

The case, described as one of the strangest in the country's history, shook public opinion due to the identity of the suspect and her mysterious motives.

The student, Ana Paula Veloso Fernandes (36 years old), was accused of using a banned toxic substance known as "Terbufos," a highly dangerous insecticide similar to rat poison, to kill her victims one by one, after testing the effectiveness of the poison on ten dogs before carrying out her crimes, according to the British newspaper "The Sun."

According to police reports, Fernandes was not alone in her scheme, as she collaborated with her twin sister Roberta Cristina, and her friend Michelle Paiva da Silva (43 years old), who is the daughter of one of the victims. The crimes were executed between January (January) and May (May) 2025 in various areas of Guarulhos, Sao Paulo, and Duque de Caxias.

Halisson Eidião, head of the investigation department, said that the accused was adept at gaining the trust of her victims before poisoning them, stressing that she "enjoyed killing without any clear motive except the desire to execute," and described her as a "callous personality."

Victims by different methods
Marcelo Fonseca, Fernandes' first victim in January (January), where she was welcomed into his home as a new tenant, and just four days later, was killed by poisoning his food, while his body was left to decompose inside the house.

In April (April), Maria Aparecida Rodrigues died after drinking coffee in Fernandes' house, and investigations indicate that the latter attempted to frame her former boyfriend, a police officer, by fabricating evidence and fake documents.

In the same month, Neil Correa da Silva, the father of one of her university classmates, died after eating poisoned food, and it turned out that his daughter, Michelle Paiva de Queiroz, paid Fernandes 4000 Brazilian reais (£540) to carry out the crime.

The fourth victim was Haider Mahazres, a young Tunisian (21 years old) who was involved with Fernandes and after they broke up, she claimed to be pregnant by him, and upon his refusal to return to her, she prepared him a poisoned milkshake (milkshake) which led to his death.

Encrypted symbol
During the investigations, the police discovered that the suspects used the code TCC, short for Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (University Final Project), as a secret symbol to exchange messages and transfer money between them.

During a raid on Fernandes' house, authorities found "Terbufos" and quantities of evidence proving her direct contact with her victims before their death, making her the last to communicate with them and the first to report their deaths to the police.

The chief of police said, "Fernandes is a highly cunning serial killer. She shows no remorse, but enjoys planning the murders and observing their results. If allowed, she would kill again without hesitation."

Currently, toxicology tests are being conducted on the bodies that have been extracted to accurately determine the type of substance used, while the police continue investigations into the possibility of the accused's involvement in other crimes.
