Khaberni - Minister of Local Administration Walid Al-Masri confirmed during a meeting with the Parliamentary Committee on Labor, Social Development, and Population that the government has put in place a systematic government plan to address the phenomenon of stray dogs over a span of 3 years.
He pointed out that the plan was prepared by a committee comprising various relevant entities, and includes the establishment of shelters in different cities, collecting stray dogs, and subjecting them to necessary veterinary procedures, noting that the first phase includes identifying 20 locations as initial centers.
Al-Masri clarified that implementing the plan requires substantial financial allocations due to the increasing number of dogs, with the cost of handling each case being about 70 Jordanian dinars, according to estimates by the Veterinary Syndicate.
The minister called on civil society institutions to enhance partnership with municipalities to unify efforts and tackle the phenomenon within an integrative approach.
