Khaberni - The International Security Council today, Tuesday, discussed the situation in Libya, and the members listened to a briefing from the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Libya, Hana Titi.
Titi said that Libya cannot afford "continued delays or disruptions" in completing the roadmap set out by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
She added that the Libyan House of Representatives and the High Council of State have not yet agreed on a way forward to restructure the Higher National Elections Commission and did not discuss the constitutional and legal framework for elections, both of which constitute the first landmarks in the UN roadmap.
The roadmap stipulates ending the transitional period, achieving progress in the agreement of unified institutions, and conducting free, fair, transparent, and inclusive presidential and legislative elections within a timeframe of 18 months, in addition to initiating structured dialogue with Libyan institutional actors and the Libyan people.
