Khaberni - The Ukrainian power company "Ukrenergo" announced on Tuesday that electricity has been cut off in at least 8 regions due to damage to energy facilities resulting from recent Russian raids.

The company stated on Telegram that "Due to the difficult situation in the energy system resulting from previous Russian attacks (...), the electricity was cut off on an emergency basis."

The blackouts impacted the regions of Sumy (north) and Kharkiv (northeast), Poltava and Dnipropetrovsk (central), with brief outages also in Kirovohrad, Cherkasy (central), Zaporizhzhia (south), and the capital, Kyiv.

Later, the company "DTEK", the largest private company in the sector, announced on Telegram the cancellation of a planned power cut in Kyiv.

It should be noted that Russia has escalated its strikes on electrical grids and railways in Ukraine weeks before the onset of winter, amid fears of continued attacks, as in previous years, plunging millions into darkness in the country's fourth winter since the Russian military operation began in February 2022, according to AFP.

Attempt to "Sow Chaos"
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Moscow of trying to "sow chaos" among the population through these strikes, which also caused damage to the Ukrainian gas sector.

On the other hand, Ukraine is targeting Russia particularly hitting oil refineries, leading to a rise in fuel prices there since the summer.

Recently, the Ukrainian army also shelled a power station in the Russian border area of Belgorod, causing a power outage there.
