Khaberni - The Public Security Directorate spokesperson said that they had dealt with a sulfuric acid vapor leak incident inside one of the factories in the city of Aqaba, which resulted in many injuries in the surrounding area.
The spokesperson mentioned that the specialized teams from the Aqaba Civil Defense Directorate, supported by the Aqaba Support Group, received a report of a sulfuric acid vapor leak from inside one of the factories located in Aqaba governorate, which led to the formation of a cloud covering an area of 400 square meters. As a result, 33 people suffering from breathing difficulties were rushed to hospitals, including two who were admitted to the intensive care unit.
The spokesperson added that the company's technical team responded to the incident and worked on managing the leak. Upon arrival, the hazardous materials team from the civil defense conducted all necessary operational procedures as per protocols for such incidents, using the latest technologies and equipment recently introduced. Meanwhile, specialized ambulance teams provided the necessary first aid to the injured and transported them to the nearest hospitals.
The spokesperson confirmed that the competent authorities in the Public Security Directorate, in cooperation with other relevant bodies, began investigating to determine the causes of the leak. The hazardous materials team measured the gas levels in the air, which were found to be within the normal range.
