Khaberni - His Majesty King Abdullah II and Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, today, Tuesday, met His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, Pope of the Vatican, at the Apostolic Palace.
During the meeting, His Majesty the King emphasized his commitment to the preservation and care of Christian religious sites in Jordan, especially the Baptism Site of Jesus Christ, peace be upon him (Al-Maghtas).
The meeting, which was the first for His Majesty with Pope Leo XIV since his installation, focused on the close relationships between Jordan and the Vatican, and ways of cooperation to achieve peace, and promote values of tolerance and dialogue.
His Majesty the King extended an invitation to Pope Leo XIV to visit the Baptism Site of Jesus Christ in the kingdom.
His Majesty emphasized Jordan's continued religious and historic role in the guardianship of Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, under the Hashemite custodianship, warning against Israeli aggressions on these holy sites.
Speaking about the situation in Gaza, His Majesty highlighted the importance of ensuring the enforcement of the war termination agreement in Gaza, and the entry of sufficient relief aid amounts to all areas.
His Majesty pointed out that the only way to achieve peace and stability in the region is through the two-state solution, ensuring the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, and achieving prosperity for the peoples of the region.
The meeting, attended by His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, the senior advisor to His Majesty for religious and cultural affairs, the personal envoy of His Majesty, discussed the joint efforts to achieve security and peace in the region and the world.
