Espanyol Owner Dreams of Winning Champions League

Khaberni - American Alan Pace, the new owner of Espanyol, is looking to instill a winning mentality in the Spanish team that always lives in the shadow of its larger neighbor, Barcelona.

On Tuesday, in his first press conference since purchasing the club last summer, Pace said: "Our ambition is to change the mentality, and that we deserve to win every match."

He added: "I hope that Espanyol or any club I am associated with aspires to win the UEFA Champions League title. This ambition may be realized after my passing, but we must first put things into the right perspective and strive to change the mindset."

He noted that Espanyol's short-term success involves being among the top six in Spain to participate in European tournaments.

Espanyol has faced numerous difficulties in recent seasons, having narrowly escaped relegation to the second division twice, and faced the same scenario for the third time last season. However, the team has had a good start this season, ranking ninth in the standings and losing only twice in the first eight rounds.

Pace also mentioned that he had once dreamed of owning a club in Barcelona because he fell in love with the city during his business studies there in the early 1990s.
