Khaberni - On Tuesday, the YouTube platform announced the launch of a new section dedicated to mental health content for adolescents, making it easier for users aged between 13 and 17 years to find age-appropriate information on topics such as depression, anxiety, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and eating disorders.

When teenagers search for terms like "depression" in the YouTube search bar, a special row of curated videos will appear at the top of the results.

YouTube stated that these videos come from trusted sources and are designed to be appropriate for the adolescent age group, according to a report by the technology news site "TechCrunch," which was reviewed by "Arabia Business".

The platform collaborated with organizations specialized in mental health and wellbeing information for youth, such as the Child Mind Institute.

This launch represents a step towards making YouTube a trusted source for younger users who are facing mental health challenges. A 2023 survey conducted by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicated that 39.7% of students felt persistently sad and hopeless, while 28.5% reported poor mental health.

Moreover, this is a significant addition to the platform, as it is important to reach teenagers in the places where they are already searching for information, like YouTube, where nine out of ten teenagers reported using the platform, according to the Pew Research Center.

This new mental health feature is scheduled to be rolled out to users in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, France, and Australia in the coming weeks.
