Khaberni - The Food and Drug Corporation confirmed that no products warned against by the World Health Organization have been registered or entered the Jordanian pharmaceutical market, indicating that the warning was due to global poisoning incidents detected since 2023.

The Corporation explained in a statement on Tuesday that the warning issued by the World Health Organization relates to contaminated cough syrup medications in India, which led to the death of several children there.

Since 2023, it has taken precautionary regulatory measures through the Health Risk Assessment Committee for Medications to ensure the safety, quality, and effectiveness of similar products in the Jordanian market, and to verify that all such products are free of impurities (EG) and (DEG).

It added that this included issuing circulars, and requiring pharmaceutical companies to provide lists of products containing high-risk inactive substances such as (Propylene glycol, Polyethylene glycol, Sorbitol, Glycerin), in addition to Certificates of Analysis (COAs) proving their freedom from "EG/DEG" impurities.

The Corporation circulated the preparation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to the manufacturing companies to identify the high-risk inactive substances in each final product, in addition to analyzing inactive materials by the manufacturing company before approving their use in manufacturing.

It mandated that the allowable limit for impurities (EG/DEG) must not exceed 0.10%, and the Corporation enhanced international cooperation with health authorities in countries that faced similar contamination cases to exchange expertise and precautionary measures.
