Khaberni - In the governorate of Assiut in Upper Egypt, today, Monday, a tragic accident occurred when a vehicle carrying a number of children fell into a water drainage channel while they were on their way to school, resulting in the death of one girl and the rescue of 11 others, in a scene that stirred sadness and shock among the residents of the area.
According to the initial investigations, the vehicle was on its way from the village of Salam to Ahmad Orabi School in the village of Manqabad, and while passing in front of the Qanater area, the steering wheel slipped from the driver's hand, leading to the vehicle veering off and falling into a water canal.
Immediately, the locals rushed to the scene of the accident upon hearing the children's cries for help, and managed to rescue most of them before the arrival of the river rescue teams.
The public prosecution clarified that it ordered the permission for the burial of the deceased girl's body, alongside questioning the driver and subjecting him to drug testing; in addition, it assigned the detectives to conduct the necessary investigations to discover the circumstances of the incident, and to determine whether there was any negligence or shortcomings in safety measures.
On his part, Major General Hisham Abu Al-Nasr, the governor of Assiut, emphasized the necessity of providing immediate medical care to the injured and monitoring their condition in hospitals. He also ordered the presence of relief teams from the Directorate of Social Solidarity at the accident site and in the hospitals to provide psychological and financial support to the affected families.
The governor confirmed that the incident represents a serious alarm about the random transportation means that carry children, asserting that he has directed a review of the licenses and safety of tricycles and similar vehicles to safeguard the lives of the students, pointing out that the state will not tolerate negligence or violations that threaten the lives of citizens.
