Khaberni - The Moroccan youth movement "Generation Z 212" announced that it will resume its demonstrations across the kingdom on Saturday to demand improvements in health and education services and the release of "prisoners of conscience," after having previously decided to suspend these protests.
The movement, which does not reveal the identities of its leaders, stated in a statement on Discord on Monday, "We announce peaceful protest stands in most cities of the kingdom on Saturday."
The statement called "all Moroccan youth and the general public to come out in large numbers to support this movement, until our fair demands are met," it expressed.
The movement specifically mentioned "the right to good education and decent health for all," "fighting corruption," and "as a top priority, the immediate release of all prisoners of conscience who participated peacefully" in protest movements.
It also mentioned "a campaign to boycott products," without giving details.
The movement had announced last Saturday the suspension of its protests after daily demonstrations for about two weeks. Some of these protests involved violent acts and clashes with the police in several cities, resulting in 3 fatalities.
This movement started on the Discord platform to discuss health and education issues in mid-September, following the death of 8 pregnant women at a public hospital in Agadir in the south of the country.
While the government renewed on Thursday its readiness to dialogue with "Generation Z 212," the movement demanded its resignation.
King Mohammed VI, in a speech on Friday, called for accelerating the pace of development programs to employ youth and improve the health and education sectors, also emphasizing fighting regional disparities, without directly referring to the youth protests.
