Khaberni - The official Chinese channel (CCTV) stated that China officially began on Tuesday to collect port fees on ships owned, operated by American entities, or those built in the United States or carrying the American flag. However, it said that ships built by China would be exempt from these fees.
The channel also mentioned that the list of exemptions includes empty ships entering Chinese shipyards for repairs.
The Chinese Ministry of Transport announced last week that the new port fees are part of countermeasures to port fees that will be imposed by the United States on ships linked to China starting from today as well.
Following this announcement, President Donald Trump stated that he would raise tariffs on Chinese imports to 100% starting from November 1st and would impose controls on the export of crucial software in response to China after the increase in restrictions on its exports of rare earth metals.
The channel mentioned that the port fees will begin to be collected at the first port of entry for the trip or for the first five trips within the year, pointing out that the annual billing cycle will begin on April 17.
It confirmed that failure to pay the fees would result in the suspension of the import and export procedures for the ship.
