Khaberni - The Union of European Football Associations "UEFA" has announced a special gift for the UEFA Champions League title holder.
According to UEFA, the 2027-2028 edition of the UEFA Champions League will begin with a major match for the title holder at their home stadium, marking the first time the competition is inaugurated with a single special match.
Currently, the league stage of the competition begins with the round one matches evenly spread over 3 days (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).
The change to be implemented starting from the next season means that only one match will be held on the first day (Tuesday), giving the title holder the greatest amount of media coverage.
The rest of the matches will then be held on Wednesday and Thursday.
This move follows the approach of the American Football League "NFL", where since 2004, the title holder typically starts the following season with a home game traditionally on Thursday night preceding the kickoff of the opening week's games.
