Khaberni - The CEO of Arab Potash Company, Dr. Maen Al-Nsour, inaugurated on Monday, the current October 13, the Arabic calligraphy exhibition organized by the Jordanian Forum for Arabic Calligraphy and Islamic Ornamentation at the Crowne Plaza Amman, with the participation of elite Jordanian and Arab calligraphers and decorators, who displayed artworks that belong to different schools of Arabic calligraphy and reflect the aesthetics of this genuine art and its Islamic and Arabic essence.
Following the inauguration, Dr. Nsour expressed his admiration for the high level attained by the Jordanian calligrapher, and the creative abilities manifested in the displayed artworks, which reflected the beauty of Arabic calligraphy as a symbol of our cultural identity and our Arab and Islamic civilization.
Dr. Nsour noted that organizing such exhibitions kindles awareness of the importance of Arabic calligraphy as one of the prominent artistic features in Arab culture and Islamic arts, emphasizing that interest in Arabic calligraphy and Islamic decoration is a way of cultivating interest in the Arabic language itself, due to the aesthetic and cognitive dimension that calligraphy brings, reflecting the depth and richness of this language.
The exhibition, which continues until October 14, and in which thirty calligraphers and decorators participated with seventy-seven panels in the art of Arabic calligraphy and decoration, showcases the aesthetics of this calligraphy and its types such as Thuluth, Ruq'ah, and Naskh, in addition to panels in Islamic decoration using ink, pigments, and manual gilding arts, and other panels that combine Arabic calligraphy and contemporary fine art through the incorporation of verses from the Holy Quran, some prophetic traditions, Arabic poetry, and famous sayings.
Meanwhile, the president of the Jordanian Forum, Jamal Al-Maghribi, said that the Jordanian Forum for Arabic Calligraphy was established in 2016 to promote Arabic calligraphy, which is considered one of the most important tools of the Arabic language that we value. He added that the Jordanian Forum has organized exhibitions for Arabic calligraphy within the kingdom and conducted introductory courses and workshops to acquaint the Jordanian society with the importance and status of Arabic calligraphy in our Arab Islamic heritage.
Al-Maghribi indicated that the Jordanian Forum for Arabic Calligraphy is earnestly working to encourage Jordanian calligraphers to advance Arabic calligraphy, resulting in intricately executed calligraphic works of high quality and beauty, as demonstrated in this exhibition which featured panels written and ornamented manually, without the use of electronic devices, rivaling their beauty and precision with global artworks. Al-Maghribi reaffirmed the forum’s commitment to serve the Arabic language through focusing on Arabic calligraphy, architecture, and Islamic decoration.
For his part, the Iraqi calligrapher Muthanna Al-Obaidi, who participated in the exhibition, expressed his admiration for the high level of the displayed panels, and confirmed that the Jordanian Forum for Arabic Calligraphy and Islamic Decoration gives significant importance to cultural and artistic work due to its positive impact on the civilizational advancement of peoples. He praised the significant attention Arabic calligraphy and Islamic decoration receive in Jordan, which was evident in the number of calligraphers and decorators participating with their outstanding panels in the exhibition and the level of attendees interested in the Arabic language and its arts.
