Khaberni - The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed that Morocco will host the African qualifying playoff for the World Cup finals next month, consisting of 4 teams, which represents an opportunity for the continent to gain an additional spot in next year's finals in North America.
The winners of the nine African qualifying groups will advance to the finals to be held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States in June, but there is also a chance for an additional spot for one of the top 4 teams finishing second in the qualifiers.
Morocco to host the World Cup 2026 qualifying playoff
The four teams will play a mini-tournament in Morocco in November to determine one team that will participate in the global playoff in March to secure a place in the first round consisting of 48 teams at the World Cup 2026.
The identities of the four teams participating in the African playoff next month will only be determined at the end of all group qualification matches next Tuesday.
The four teams will play two semi-final matches in Morocco, on Thursday, 13 November, at venues yet to be determined, followed by the final match on Sunday, 16 November.
The teams will be seeded according to their positions in the upcoming FIFA ranking, which will be issued on 23 October, with the highest-ranked team facing the lowest-ranked team, and the team in second place facing the team in third place.
Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, and Ghana have qualified for the World Cup finals before the end of the qualifying journey.
