Khaberni - The Ministry of Environment confirmed that a specialized technical team will commence on Monday morning to collect water samples from the Al-Mujib Dam for lab testing, in order to ascertain the actual causes behind the fish die-off incident in the dam that has been circulating on social media in the past two days.
The Ministry clarified in a press statement on Sunday evening that it is closely monitoring the incident through the staff of the Environmental Monitoring Directorate, and in coordination with the Royal Scientific Society, pointing out that these measures come within the framework of the environmental monitoring system adopted by the ministry to maintain water quality and ecosystems.
The Ministry also mentioned that it has coordinated with the Jordan Valley Authority, which confirmed that the results of the samples collected two days ago did not show any negative indicators related to water quality or its environmental safety.
The Ministry of Environment explained that this step is part of the routine environmental monitoring program applied across different regions of the kingdom, confirming that the results of the tests of the samples collected two months ago, conducted at the Royal Scientific Society, did not show any indicators of pollution or environmental faults in the dam.
The Ministry emphasized that it will announce the results of the examinations as soon as they are available, and will take necessary measures if the presence of any environmental impacts or potential pollution is proven, affirming that maintaining water quality and environmental balance in the dams is a national priority.
It also called on citizens to be meticulous in disseminating environmental information and to rely on official sources, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring a safe and sustainable environment and preserving water resources in Jordan.
